What is sound exchange?

SoundExchange is a non-profit organization that ensures that performers and copyright holders are paid for the use of their digital performances. It was established in 2000 by the Digital Performance Right in Sound Recordings Act.

SoundExchange collects royalties from digital music services, such as Pandora, SiriusXM, and Spotify, on behalf of artists and record labels. These royalties are then distributed to the appropriate performers and copyright holders.

SoundExchange also provides educational resources and advocacy to help artists and record labels navigate the rapidly changing digital music landscape.

Since its inception, SoundExchange has distributed over $7 billion in royalties to rights holders and has become a key player in the digital music industry.
